The CFMS is an organization representing over 8,000 medical students from 15 Canadian medical student societies from coast to coast. We represent medical students to the public, to the federal government, and to national and international medical organizations.

The CFMS in collaboration with the Canadian Armed Forces has worked to create supernumerary Family Medicine positions through the Medical Officer Training Program (MOTP). This initiative is called MOTP Surge 2018. If you are interested in exploring the option of becoming a Medical Officer and starting residency in July, please follow the steps below.

In order to apply you must:

• be a Canadian Citizen; and

• be between 17 and 47 years old.

Unmatched Medical Students

Regardless of previous interest in the military, any medical student who finds out they are unmatched after the second match iteration on April 11 is encouraged to:

1. Send an email with “MOTP Surge 2018” in the subject to: [email protected]. This will get them put on an emailing list through which we will communicate any and all updates regarding the military application process and/or PGME application process.

   • The initial email must include:

     • “MOTP Surge 2018” in the subject line

     • Full Legal Name

     • Best contact information (email and phone number)

     • Date of Birth

     • Current mailing address

     • Present Undergraduate Medical School (if applicable)

2. Start “Military side” of application at: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/caf-jobs/apply-now.html

   • During application process, ensure you select:

     • “Regular Force - Full Time”

     • Choose Army or Navy or Airforce (this will not affect your application nor your employment and we can change it later in application process should you choose)

     • “Officer”

     • Entry plan “Medical Officer Training Plan”

     • Military Occupation “Medical”

   • Be prepared to attend a one day recruiting process (details to be determined)

3. Be prepared to Start “PGME side” of application.  The timelines will be quick as we are targeting 1 July 2018 on-cycle start.

Programme de formation des médecins des forces armées canadiennes pour les étudiants non-jumelés

La FEMC, en collaboration avec les forces armées canadiennes, a travaillé pour créer un nombre élevé de postes en médecine familiale via le programme d’instruction de médecine militaire (PIMM). Cette initiative se nomme PIMM Surge 2018. Si vous êtes intéressés à explorer l’option de devenir un officier médical et de débuter la résidence en juillet, veuillez suivre ces étapes :

Afin d’appliquer, vous devez :

• Être un citoyen canadien

• Être entre 17 et 47 ans

Étudiants en médecine non-jumelés

Peu importe l’intérêt d’être dans l’armée, tout étudiant en médecine qui se trouve non-jumelé après le 2e tour (11 avril) est invité à :

1. Envoyez un courriel avec « MOTP Surge 2018 » comme sujet au : [email protected]. Ceci vous inscrira sur une liste d’envoi dont nous communiquerons toutes les mises à jour du processus d’application et/ou études postdoctorales.

   • Le courriel initial doit inclure :

     • « MOTP Surge 2018 » comme sujet

     • Nom légal complet

     • Coordonnées pour vous rejoindre (courriel et téléphone)

     • Date de naissance

     • Adresse actuelle

     • Nom de votre école de médecine (si applicable)

Comme la situation est en évolution, nous vous enverrons plus d’informations dès que nous en aurons. 

Pour ceux et celles qui voudront faire une demande pour un poste en résidance dans ce programme en médecine de famille post-doctorale avec retour de service:

1. Inscrivez-vous à la liste de diffusion PIMM Surge 2018 (voir instructions ci-haut)

   • Quand vous remplissez votre demande, assurez-vous de sélectionner les critères suivants: 

     • “Force régulier – temps plein”

     • Choissisez armée, marine ou aviation (le choix que vous indiquez n’aura aucun effet sur votre demande ni pour votre emploi et vous aurez l’opportunité de modifier ce choix plus tard dans le processus si vous le désiriez) 

     • “Officier”

     • Programme d’enrôlement “Programme d’instruction de médecine militaire” PIMM  

     • Occupation militaire “Médical”

   • Acceptez d’être présent pour une journée de recrutement (détails à suivre)  

3. Compléter la demande “côte formation médicale post-doctorale”.  Les dates limites pour sont courtes car le but serait que le programme débute le 1 juillet 2018.

4. Envoyez toute question à :

   • Assurez-vous d’inclure le sujet dans la ligne d’objet “PIMM Surge 2018”.
